A day in the life of a hungry HongKonger

Hong Kong.  Where the East meets West.  Gourmet Paradise.  You can always find unique and delicious food in this amazing place.  Since we were once colonised by the Brits, we have the best of both worlds, particularly in our cuisine.  Fellow Hong Kongers, we are blessed with all the incredible delicacies around us everyday.  Follow me, a HongKonger who is constantly craving for good food, on my journey to find the best things to put in your mouth.


Kick start the day with breakfast – have some dim sums to fill the empty stomach!  Some of the must-order dim sums would be shrimp dumplings (har gau) and siu mai.



It’s time for lunch!  Why not have an authentic cha chaan teng meal?  Australia Dairy Company – despite its name – has nothing to do with Australia.  In fact, this is one of the most popular eateries visited by tourists, and us locals love this place too.  Do not expect excellent customer service – your guidebook would probably tell you anyway – because in Hong Kong we are all about efficiency, and therefore expect to indulge in goodness within 30 seconds after you’ve ordered your food!  Psst: their scrambled eggs are absolutely amazing.



Anything and EVERYTHING Korea-related has been a hype lately in Hong Kong, thanks to the whole K-Pop and hallyu thing.  (I AM still missing Korea, and still reminiscing my trip in June)  Korean eateries are gradually (and inevitably) invading every corner in Hong Kong.  And of course, Korean food is not only about the BBQs.  Head to Kimberley Street in Tsim Sha Tsui for more authentic and diverse eateries.  The area is also known as Korean Street by the locals, as there is a cluster of eateries opened by Koreans living in Hong Kong.  Apart from BBQ, you can enjoy cheese ribs on a hot sizzling plate, bibimbap, fried chicken and beer (chimek), ramyeon…you name it!  And don’t forget to do some grocery shopping in Korean Street.  There are a number of Korean grocery stores where you can find cooking ingredients, snacks, and even ice cream.




Kill the summer heat with some good ice creams or any cold desserts.  Apart from the Korean wave, matcha is also very popular in Hong Kong this summer, even McDonald’s serve matcha ice cream too!  If you are looking for something more traditional, egg tarts, egg waffles, fish ball, put jai go, you have LOTS to choose from, and these are only a few of the many traditional Hong Kong style gourmet that you mustn’t miss.
